Economic Development

The Economic Development Committee is responsible for educating the community and chapter members on personal fiscal management, financial security, homeownership, and entrepreneurship through the following initiatives as identified in our Program Planning and Development Guide (PPD 2010-2013):

Financial Fortitude Initiative

Comprised of ten components, the Financial Fortitude Initiative provides a collaboration of information from the FDIC, the National Endowment for Financial Education and other well-known financial institutions. The initiative is to help members of the sorority to spread financial education throughout their local communities and build wealth and financial security by understanding the basic principles of earning, spending, saving, and investing.

The Delta Challenge: Homeownership Initiative

The Delta Homeownership Challenge, created in 2003, paves the way for sorors, family, friends and the African-American community to achieve the dream of homeownership. The month of June has been dedicated as The Delta Challenge: National Homeownership Month.  Chapter members and the community can expect e-blasts and weekly updates regarding the benefits of homeownership and links to valuable resources.

Delta H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Maintenance and Education)

This program is designed to allow sorors, family, friends, and the communities served to be trained on the three phases of Home Ownership: “Buying Your Home,” “Living in Your Home,” and “Keeping Your Home.”

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is a financial wealth-building initiative that educates individuals within communities on techniques and resources available to enable them to start and operate successful businesses. Entrepreneurship improves the financial stability, provides economic empowerment, and enhances the overall quality of life.
